The Creation of The Olney Tavern…
Our story is one where past and present nostalgically and hopefully collide, just like the atmosphere and cuisine you’ll find here at The Olney Tavern. The proprietors are a father and son duo—two hardworking people representing the very epitome of the American dream. Jose Vasquez, Sr. first came to the United States in the 70s and took a job as a dishwasher. Employers soon noticed his undeniable spirit, his work ethic, and his undeniable love of the kitchen. Through the years, he soaked in every lesson he could, eventually becoming an acclaimed Executive Chef of Dominique's, and most recently, Alexandria’s Ecco Cafe.
His wife Carmen completes the team as they bring their cooking expertise here to their family’s own creation, The Olney Tavern. Jose’s gourmet repertoire is large, and his mouthwatering recipes include electable French Sauces, homemade Italian pastas, and classic American dishes with a twist. They take great pride in seeing their guests’ empty plates.
Jose Vasquez, Jr. grew up watching his father work hard. He began tagging along to help him in the kitchen when he was no more than twelve, and he caught the same bug his father had: a love of cooking, the bustle of the kitchen, and the need to make customers smile. He attended culinary school in Gaithersburg, honing the skills he's grown up watching his father exercise.
The family knows no other life but the restaurant life, holding every job from dishwasher to General Manager—and now Owners. While Jose Sr. is in charge of The Olney Tavern’s unique and delicious menu, Jose Jr. will make sure that your dining experience is everything that it could possibly be. Introduce yourself and let him know how he can accommodate you!
We hope you’ll step into our world for a dining experience like no other, where the family atmosphere of old Olney lives on. It seems perfectly fitting that our restaurant showcases years of hard work where the remnants of Quakers still stands. It’s here that we too have come to realize the same American dream that the first settlers envisioned long ago—one where motivation, desire, and passion breed success.
Today our success is measured by your complete satisfaction with your dining experience. We hope you’ll enjoy the food, service and ambiance as much as we’ve enjoyed their creation.
Thanks for visiting The Olney Tavern. See you again soon!
